Web Design
Web Design for New Zealand Businesses
A website's job is to turn a phone search into a phone call. We build custom sites in Next.js for New Zealand small businesses — fast on rural 4G, findable in Google, and set up so the SEO is done before launch rather than sold to you six months later.
What you actually get
A custom site built around how your customers actually decide, rather than a purchased theme with your logo dropped in. Structure, page order and forms are shaped by the job the site has to do, and the whole thing is built on components we have already proven on other projects.
That means the structure follows how your customers actually decide — a builder needs a portfolio that survives being scrolled on a phone at a job site, a café needs opening hours and a menu above the fold, a contractor needs a quote form that doesn't ask for eleven fields.
The build runs on Next.js with components we've already proven across other projects. That's not a technical brag, it's why the price works: the foundations are solved, so the time goes into the parts that are specific to you.
SEO is included, not an upsell
Page titles, meta descriptions, structured data, an XML sitemap and Google Business Profile setup are all configured before the site goes live. None of it is quoted separately, because none of it is optional — a site that was never told what it is about cannot rank for anything.
This is the single most common gap we find when auditing an existing site — a good-looking build that was never told what it's about, then a separate SEO retainer quoted once the rankings don't appear. We wrote up what we check in the first ten minutes of an audit if you want to run the same pass over your own site.
Speed matters more here than most places
A lot of New Zealand runs on rural 4G, so page weight is a business constraint rather than a technical preference. A site that takes six seconds to load on a farm outside Winton is a broken site, whatever it cost to build. We test on real connections, not on a fibre line in a studio.
You talk to the person who builds it
There is no account manager and no project manager. What you ask for is what gets built — no ticket, no translation step, and no revision round spent fixing a misunderstanding between three people. It is also why our quotes look different from an agency's.
You're not funding an Auckland lease or a pile of proposals that went nowhere. We've written a full breakdown of what actually makes a website expensive if you're holding a quote and trying to work out what you're looking at.
What it costs
Two ways to work with us, both on a 24-month term. Web Presence is a custom-built site for a $599 setup fee plus $75/month. eCommerce is the same arrangement for online stores, at $1,500 setup plus $120/month.
The monthly fee covers hosting, maintenance, security updates and small content changes. eCommerce adds product management, payment integration and order flow. Your domain, hosting and analytics are registered in your name — you can walk away with all of it.
Areas we serve
We work with businesses throughout New Zealand remotely, and across Southland in particular. These are the areas we work in most, each with its own page on what web design looks like there.
Common questions
- How much does a website cost in New Zealand?
- Quotes for the same small business site commonly range from $2,000 to $8,000. The difference is usually not quality — it's overhead: pitching costs, account and project management layers, and commercial rent. Our Web Presence package is a $599 setup fee plus $75 a month, with hosting and maintenance included.
- How long does a website take to build?
- Most small business sites take two to four weeks from brief to launch. The variable is almost always content — photos, copy and product information from you — rather than build time. We'll tell you at the quote stage what we need and when.
- Do I need to be in Southland to work with you?
- No. We're based in Ohai and work with businesses across New Zealand remotely. Everything runs over email, phone and video, and you'll be talking to the same person the whole way through.
- Can you rebuild my existing site?
- Yes, and often it's the better option. We'll audit what you have first and tell you honestly whether it needs a rebuild or just fixing — sometimes a site is structurally fine and just badly configured.
- Who owns the website when it's finished?
- You do. Domain, hosting and analytics all go in your name from the start. There's no lock-in and nothing held hostage if you decide to move on.
Got a quote you want a second opinion on?
Send it through. We'll give you an honest read on it, even if the answer is that it's fair and you should take it.
