Digital Marketing for NZ Small Businesses

Getting found is a different job from having a website. We handle local SEO, Google Business Profile, and the content work that puts a business in front of people already searching for what it does — measured in enquiries, not impressions.

Local SEO

For most small businesses the entire game is ranking for “what you do” plus “your town”. That is won with a properly structured site, a verified and maintained Google Business Profile, consistent business details across directories, and pages that answer the questions people actually type in.

We've written a step-by-step guide to setting up a Google Business Profile — it's free and you're welcome to do it yourself. Plenty of businesses should.

Content that answers real questions

The most reliable content strategy for a small business is unglamorous: write the honest answer to the questions customers keep asking you before they buy. Those are the exact phrases they search, and the phrases AI assistants pull from when they answer on your behalf.

A growing share of people now ask an AI assistant instead of scrolling results. That rewards content structured to be extracted — clear questions, direct answers, proper structured data — and quietly punishes marketing copy that circles a point without ever stating it.

We cover this in more depth in what NZ businesses should do about AI search.

What we don't do

No lock-in retainers with a monthly report full of impressions. No paid ads arrangement where our fee scales with how much you spend. If the honest answer is that your money is better spent on the site itself before any marketing runs, we'll say so.

That is often the answer, and it is why the web design work includes SEO configuration at launch rather than selling it back to you later. See the monthly marketing plans.

Common questions

How do I rank higher on Google in New Zealand?
For a local business, start with three things: a complete and verified Google Business Profile, a page on your site for each service and each area you serve, and consistent name, address and phone details everywhere you appear online. That covers most of the gap for most small businesses.
How long does SEO take to work?
Local rankings for low-competition town-level searches can move within four to eight weeks. Competitive city-wide terms take three to six months. Anyone promising first-page results in two weeks is either buying ads or describing a search nobody performs.
Do I need to pay for Google Ads?
Not necessarily. Ads make sense when you need enquiries immediately or you're in a genuinely competitive market. For a lot of Southland businesses, organic local search and a well-maintained Google Business Profile do the job at no ongoing media cost.
Is SEO included when you build a website?
Yes. Titles, meta descriptions, structured data, sitemap and Google Business Profile setup are all configured before launch on every site we build. It is not a separate package.

Not sure whether you need marketing yet?

Ask us. If your site isn't ready to convert the traffic, we'll tell you to fix that first rather than sell you a retainer.
